Op 20 april 1992 nam zich een van de grootse rock evenementen ooit in de geschiedenis van de muziek plaats in het London Wembley Stadium. Queen nam afscheid van hun, aan aids overleden, zanger Freddie Mercury met een lange lijst beroemde gasten en een spectaculaire show.

Het Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert bevat het tweede, 105 minuten durende, gedeelte van het evenement. De overgebleven bandleden van Queen Brian May, John Deacon en Roger Taylor werden bij dit "Best Of" programma van ontelbare hits bijgestaan door muzikanten van de meest verschillende takken. Opvallend waren de optredens van Roger Daltrey van The Who en gitarist van Black Sabbath Tony Iommi ("I Want It All"), Robert Plant van Led Zeppelin ("Crazy Little Thing Called Love"), Def Leppard's front man Joe Elliot en gitarist van Guns 'N' Roses Slash ("Tie Your Mother Down"), Metallica's James Hetfield en Tony Iommi ("Stone Cold Crazy") en Lisa Stansfield ("I Want To Break Free"), wat zich uiteindelijk tot een rockend geheel uitpakte. Maar ook de rustigere momenten met onder anderen Paul Young ("Radio Ga Ga"), David Bowie en zangeres van de Eurythmics Annie Lennox ("Under Pressure"), Elton John ("Bohemian Rhapsody, The Show Must Go On") en zeker George Michael ("39", "These Are The Days Of Our Lives", "Somebody To Love") zijn overtuigend. Het meest aangrijpende moment was Brian May met zijn, solo gespeelde, ontroerende afscheidslied "Too Much Love Will Kill You".
